Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide clinical leadership and expertise in evidence-informed practice related to the designated clinical area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide consultation and clinical expertise to staff, students, and patients in medical, surgical, or specialized clinic areas.
  • Role model direct care skills to staff and students related to the clinical area/unit.
  • Develop and revise education tools/plans on the basis of identified learner needs, chart audits, patient outcomes, and introduction of new/revised clinical decision support tools or scope(s) of practice/roles/functions.
  • Deliver learner-centered education to individuals or groups of staff and patient/families through methods such as coaching, conducting presentations, facilitating groups, and providing lectures.
  • Collaborate with other practice leaders to provide leadership, consultation, and performance support to clinical staff, employed student nurses, and students to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
  • Support staff to plan and carry out patient/family education about discharge planning, illness prevention, and health promotion.
  • Participate in quality improvement and risk management activities by methods such as evaluating the effect of changes in practice, making recommendations to improve current practices, and conducting quality and safety audits.
  • Participate in research and special projects; promote staff awareness and involvement in research activities.
Qualifications
  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Three years of recent related clinical experience in the designated clinical specialty area, including one year of education and/or leadership experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Completion of post-graduate coursework and/or certification applicable to the designated clinical area.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes, as required.

  • Clinical proficiency/expertise in the designated clinical nursing area.
  • Ability to role model direct care skills, coach, mentor, and teach nursing skills that are compliant with current standards of practice and that ensure quality of care.
  • Ability to apply educational theories and evidence to teaching practices.
  • Ability to identify learning needs of individual or groups of staff.
  • Ability to foster effective teaching and learning relationships.
  • Ability to facilitate learning and create effective learning environments.
  • Ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders in preparing appropriate learner environments.
  • Ability to develop and utilize appropriate practice assessment tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently in an organized and self-directed manner.
  • Ability to problem-solve and effectively deal with conflict situations.
  • Ability to conceptualize teaching from a unit to regional focus.
  • Knowledge of research processes and methodology.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
