Job Title: Educational Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Assistant to join our team at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board. As an Educational Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and learning disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support to students with special needs, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and learning disabilities.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Assist students with daily living skills, such as toileting, dressing, and feeding.
  • Support students with communication and social skills development.
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and other activities as needed.
Requirements:
  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of related experience working with school-aged special needs children.
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C.
  • Completed Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant Autism and/or Learning Disabilities experience.
  • Experience working with high school-aged students identified with Learning Difficulties.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software such as Dragon and Kurzweil.
