Job Title: Infant and Child Development Worker

The Salvation Army is seeking a skilled and compassionate Infant and Child Development Worker to join our team at the Bethany Hope Centre. As a key member of our childcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to children and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that promote social interaction and personal development
  • Support the scheduling of childcare spots and interact with parents regarding space availability
  • Provide ongoing feedback and engagement with parents on child development and behavior
  • Ensure confidentiality and maintain accurate records of children, families, staff, visitors, and volunteers
  • Support parent/child intakes and child development assessments as required
  • Model appropriate behaviors and attitudes to support growth and promote change for children and families
  • Participate in ongoing training in trauma and infant/child mental health
  • Provide emergency first aid and complete incident reports as required
  • Prepare healthy snacks and maintain facility cleanliness and tidiness
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

  • This is a permanent part-time position working 24 hours per week
  • Typical working conditions are in a childcare room and an office for administrative work
  • The job requires lifting/moving equipment and children, and room setup, active involvement with children for most of the day, occasional computer work, cleaning the facility, and putting up wall displays
  • No travel is required for this position

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, plus a specialized course in Early Childhood Education Assistant or equivalent
  • Registered Early Childhood Education Assistant or registered with an equivalent association
  • Certificate in Infant/Child Mental Health an asset
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification within 2 years
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

Experience and Knowledge:

  • More than three months of prior related experience, including experience in a childcare environment
  • Trauma-informed and infant/child mental health and Brain Story training an asset

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Attentive listening, preparing materials, crafts, program planning
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada
