The Ontario Public Service is seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist to join its Science team at the Ontario Science Centre. As a member of this dynamic team, you will contribute to the development of exhibition and program content that inspires curiosity and fosters a love of science among visitors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide scientific and technological expertise for the creation of engaging and educational exhibits
  • Lead discussions on thematic and scientific content for exhibitions and other projects
  • Ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of scientific communication in exhibition content
  • Serve as a scientific resource for staff and the public

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Expertise in one or more scientific disciplines, such as biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, geology, or equivalent, and Indigenous science
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge of specified scientific disciplines and related technologies and methodologies
  • Comprehensive understanding of the social relevance and impact of science and technology, public attitudes, trends, and government policies
  • Strong analytical and evaluative skills to determine scientific content

In addition to your technical expertise, you will also demonstrate:

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
  • Ability to research and develop new exhibit and program ideas
  • Knowledge of exhibit development processes from concept to prototype
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Proven team leadership skills and excellent teamwork and coordination abilities

This is a temporary opportunity with a duration of up to 12 months. The estimated salary range for this position is $1,605.35 - $2,037.57 per week.*

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing scientific and technological expertise for exhibition and program content development. They will lead discussions on thematic and scientific content and ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of scientific communication in exhibition content.

This role requires strong analytical and evaluative skills to determine scientific content, as well as excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of the social relevance and impact of science and technology, public attitudes, trends, and government policies.
