We are a venture-backed hardware startup based in Waterloo, ON. Our patented valve-in-piston linear engine technology offers unprecedented variability in combustion control, such that our generators can achieve the highest possible efficiency in real world conditions.

We're developing an engine architecture for standalone power and hybrid vehicle use in multiple sectors (mining, construction, marine, energy, military, datacenter, and more). Our products will be exposed to a wide range of challenging environments and must produce reliable power for decades, all while minimizing carbon emissions from cradle to grave.

Job Description:

As a seasoned Piston Engine Control Systems Lead, you will lead development of novel engine control strategies for Intelline's patented valve-in-piston linear engine. You will prepare sensors and data acquisition for subsystem tests and full engine testing, apply background knowledge of ECU tuning and common engine component control (fuel, ignition, sensor feedback) to novel engine architecture for initial testing, participate in data analysis and discussion on combustion testing, implement improvements to engine control strategies based on test data, collaborate with team on development of machine learning algorithms for variable condition and multi-fuel engine control, lead training of models and implementation with physical engine testing, collaborate on control hardware component selection, and advance development of Intelline's engine control strategies on Audesse FlexCase development ECU.

Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 CAD/yr + stock options.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years work experience in powertrain development and/or complex motion control systems.
  • 3+ years experience with development and training of AI/ML models.
  • 3+ years experience with National Instruments cRIO hardware and LabView.
  • 3+ years experience in rapid prototyping engine controls development with flexible ECU platforms (Mahle Flexible ECU, Audesse FlexCase, or similar).
  • 3+ years experience with setup and calibration of a variety of sensors (pressure transducers, thermocouples, encoders, various automotive gas analysis sensors).
  • Experience with CAN bus communication.
  • Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink, python, C, Microsoft office products.
  • Extensive knowledge of internal combustion piston engines and electric power generation through work experience and/or personal projects.
  • Proven problem solving and critical thinking skills through previous work experience with substantial project responsibilities.
