Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to join our team at the National Film Board of Canada. In this role, you will supervise and direct financial operations staff, ensuring that our financial services run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and prioritize work to ensure day-to-day activities run smoothly.
  • Act as a super user of the SAP financial system and provide advice on accounting treatments.
  • Interpret policy provisions and represent the NFB in policy-related matters.
  • Ensure proper accounting of general ledger accounts and reviews the monthly and annual closing.
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and activity planning to ensure the integrity of financial systems.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in accounting processes and implement solutions.
  • Collaborate in defining internal controls and ensures they are implemented efficiently.
  • Monitor tax rates and taxation to comply with federal and provincial regulations.
  • Supervise or authorize financial transactions and ensure compliance with the Financial Administration Act.
  • Manage human resources in their sector, including setting clear expectations and evaluating performance.
  • Communicate policies, objectives, and strategies to sector members and act as a spokesperson.
  • Collaborate on projects to improve tools, IT systems, and financial processes.
  • Coordinate information during audits and performs audit analysis.
  • Produce assigned reports, including monthly revenue reports and proactive disclosures.

Requirements

  • University degree in an appropriate discipline, such as Finance, Administration, or Accounting.
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant accounting experience, including at least two years of managing accounting staff.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA).
  • Experience with ERP accounting system, preferably SAP.
  • In-depth knowledge of computerized data processing and accounting structures.
  • Bilingualism in both official languages, both orally and in writing.
