Laborer Position in Road Maintenance

This is an exciting opportunity to work in road maintenance with Norfolk County. As an Operations Labourer, you will be responsible for performing labour-related duties such as maintaining roads, road signs, curb and gutters, sidewalks, etc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Hand load construction and maintenance materials
  • Assist with the maintenance of curb and gutters, sidewalks, signs, culverts, catch basins, storm sewers, ditches, pavement patching and road restoration
  • Assist with traffic control and pilot truck operations for road construction and maintenance work
  • Hand sweep sand and stone from road surfaces, hand digs around underground utilities
  • Carry out maintenance and housekeeping duties on grounds and buildings

You will work closely with the Area Operations Supervisors and other team members to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. This role requires a strong ability to work in a team environment, follow verbal and written instructions, and complete duties to a high standard.

Requirements
  • High School student – minimum of 16 years of age
  • 3 months related experience
  • Ability to work in a team environment, accept and follow verbal and written instructions, complete duties to an acceptable level of quantity and quality with minimal supervision
  • Ability to deal with the public courteously and effectively
  • Motivated and hardworking individual able to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Ability to safely operate various tools and equipment related to general maintenance

Please note that this role requires a Class G2 Driver's License and CSA approved safety boots. You must also be willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays. Employment is conditional upon attendance at all training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements, and ability to meet the employment term.
