We are seeking a highly skilled Simulation Support Specialist to join our team at Mount Royal University.

Job Overview

This is a full-time, permanent position that requires the individual to work collaboratively with our simulation team to provide exceptional support in maintaining the integrity of our clinical teaching environments (CTE).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reset CTE between simulated clinical experiences (SCE), including simulation suites, mannequins, props, and equipment to ensure seamless execution of each session.
  • Set up debrief rooms, including seating arrangements, nametags, and necessary documentation, ensuring all audio-visual equipment is functioning properly prior to each SCE.
  • Assist with the operation of mannequin and audio-visual equipment as required to maintain fidelity in the simulated environment.
  • Maintain congruence with simulation standards, program-specific philosophies, and pedagogies to uphold the highest level of quality in our simulations.
  • Promote the maintenance of fidelity in the simulated environment by consistently adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Foster enthusiasm and support for simulation as a learning modality among team members and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate professional and ethical behaviors in all interactions with colleagues, students, and external partners.
  • Promote and participate in open communication, self-analysis, and reflection to maintain competency and currency within the role.
  • Establish and engage in methods for obtaining and providing meaningful feedback to peers to ensure ongoing improvement and excellence in simulation delivery.
  • Operate audio-visual computer programs, adjusting camera angles for optimal viewing, starting and stopping audio/video recordings, and bookmarking relevant segments of the recordings to enhance post-simulation analysis.
  • Extend the role of the patient into the simulation session as required by the SCE to provide realistic and immersive experiences for learners.

About You

We are looking for an individual with:

  • A two-year post-secondary certificate or program completion.
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • CHSOS and/or other simulation technician certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in simulation methodology, technology, software, and equipment is highly desirable.
  • Good physical health with the ability to move tables, carts, and other simulation equipment.
  • The ability to lift up to 22 kg (50 lbs) is essential.
  • Attention to detail is crucial in following setup and take-down procedures for lab courses.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment.
  • The ability to work with anatomical models and rooms where cadavers and/or animal tissues are displayed on a daily basis.
  • Tact, discretion, flexibility, respect, and confidentiality in all matters.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with team members, researchers, and facility users.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is an asset.
