About the Role

The Simulation Operations Specialist is a key member of the team at Mount Royal University, supporting programs within the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM). This role plays a crucial part in the Clinical Teaching Environment (CTE) and operations in Simulated Clinical Experiences (SCE).

Responsibilities

  • Reset CTE between SCE, including Simulation Suites, mannequins, props, and equipment.
  • Set up debrief rooms, ensuring seating, nametags, forms are in place, and computers, TVs, and all audio-visual equipment are functioning before each SCE.
  • Assist with operating mannequin and audio-visual equipment as required.
  • Maintain congruence with simulation standards, program-specific philosophy, and pedagogy.
  • Promote fidelity in the simulated environment.
  • Foster enthusiasm and support for simulation as a learning modality.
  • Demonstrate professional and ethical behavior.
  • Promote open communication, self-analysis, and reflection.
  • Establish methods for obtaining and providing meaningful feedback to peers to maintain competency and currency.
  • Operate audio-visual computer programs, adjusting camera angles for optimal viewing, starting/stopping audio/video sessions, and bookmarking relevant segments of recordings.
  • Extend the patient's role into simulation sessions as required by SCE.

Qualifications

  • A two-year post-secondary certificate or program completion is required.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • CHSOS and/or other simulation technician certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in simulation methodology, technology, software, and equipment are beneficial.
  • Good physical health with the ability to move tables, carts, and other simulation equipment is essential.
  • The ability to lift up to 22 kg (50 lbs.) is necessary.
  • Attention to detail is crucial for following set-up and take-down procedures for lab courses.
  • Flexibility is vital.
  • The ability to work with anatomical models and rooms displaying cadavers and/or animal tissues daily is required.
  • Tact, discretion, flexibility, respect, and confidentiality must be exercised in all matters.
  • Excellent communication skills are necessary for interacting with team members, researchers, and facility users.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook is an asset.
