Senior Development Accountant Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Development Accountant to join our team at TalentSphere Staffing Solutions. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for maintaining and managing a portfolio of commercial and residential properties under development across different entities within a Domestic portfolio.

About the Role:

The Senior Development Accountant will be fully proficient in understanding the technical and non-technical aspects of Development (Construction) and Project Accounting. You will handle all aspects of accounting for development projects with minimal supervision, including setting up and maintaining projects in the accounting system's job cost, preparing loan draws and capital calls, and preparing monthly financial reports.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage a portfolio of development projects, including commercial and residential properties.
  • Set up and maintain projects in the accounting system's job cost, including original and revised budgets, costs incurred, costs to complete, committed costs, and projected final costs.
  • Prepare loan draws and capital calls as required.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports, providing timely and accurate analysis of financial results and operating metrics.
  • Coordinate with development and finance to track and report projected cash needs for all projects, including those in the pre-construction phase.
  • Track holdbacks and holdback releases in accordance with provincial lien holdback legislation.
  • Monitor committed costs and projected final costs relative to changes in contracts and commitments.
  • Work with property accounting team to transition properties under development to income producing.
About the Candidate:
  • Professional accounting designation or equivalent commercial real estate accounting experience required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years accounting experience in a development and construction accounting environment.
  • Specialized computer skills in a range of software including: Yardi, JD Edwards enterprise software and Microsoft Office.
  • Effective communication, written and verbal.
