Job Summary

The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled Wildfire Communication Specialist to provide critical support for area and provincial telecommunication networks and sub-systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, set up, and maintain radio, data, and voice communications during wildfires and other emergency incidents.
  • Perform daily operational tests and measurements to ensure systems are effective and stable.
  • Develop and implement radio frequency plans to meet incident scope and scale requirements.
  • Maintain unit logs, asset inventories, and system designs.
  • Protect capital investments and ensure networks and systems are available when needed.
  • Manage preventative maintenance programs for Firenet, Dispatch Centre, Fixed Detection, and Alberta First Responders Radio Communication System Sites.
  • Respond to outages, degradations, and operational concerns in a methodical and prioritized approach.
  • Provide area communication support and expertise to enhance local area communication needs.
  • Maintain provincial resource support systems, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Remote Camera systems, Lightning Locator Processor, Remote Automated Weather Stations, and Firenet Data network.
  • Support the Area and Provincial Telecom and Facilities unit by staying informed and up to date in the technical industry, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and participating in area and provincial standby rosters for outages and incident support.

About the Role

This is a critical and vital role in ensuring Forestry staff, along with other ministry and municipal government staff, have the appropriate and dependable telecommunication platforms during wildfires, natural disasters, local emergencies, and daily operations.
