Job Summary:

The Salvation Army is seeking a Part Time Thrift Store Clerk to provide exceptional customer service, sort and process donations, and assist with retail operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service, responding to customer inquiries and resolving issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Sort and process donations, including loading/unloading, sorting, packing, pricing, and storing items.
  • Operate a cash register, handle customer transactions, and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist with store layout and visual merchandising, including window displays and merchandise displays.
  • Contribute to meeting store budgets by maintaining customer service standards and promoting sales.
  • Work collaboratively with volunteers and other team members to achieve store goals.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a temporary part-time position based on 20 hours per week.
  • Schedule may vary from week to week and include weekdays and Saturdays.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, with frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching required.
  • Ability to lift/move 20 to 29 pounds.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Completion of Secondary School.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience.
  • Cash handling experience required.
  • Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine, and/or credit card processing a definite asset.

  • Basic math skills required.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating a strong work ethic and willingness to learn and be flexible.
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Exhibit good listening skills, strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully.
