Job OverviewThe Production Lead Hand reports to the Production Manager and Operations Specialist, responsible for coordinating, tracking, recording, and planning orders to meet production deadlines. This involves planning material acquisition and developing tasks for machine workstations. The lead hand also acts as a key contact for department employees, reinforcing health and safety compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and facilitate production processes by reviewing, monitoring, and releasing work orders to maintain the production schedule and product quality assurance.
- Supervise, coordinate, and schedule activities of workers who assemble, fabricate, and inspect products.
- Work in partnership with the Operations Specialist to prepare schedules, review KPIs, and provide training to department employees.
- Responsible for periodic cycle counts, yard/warehouse inventory organization, rotation, and maintenance.
- Initial review of work orders to verify and track components required for all new work orders.
- Continuous review to ensure necessary work is sent to the floor as required to maintain the production schedule and on-time delivery to customers.
- Review incoming POs to determine if materials should be immediately issued to work order or paced into stocked inventory for later use.
- Certified and proficient operator of sit-down counterbalance forklifts for indoor and outdoor use to move pallets, crates, and lengths of pipe (up to 22 feet in width) on and off flat deck trailers to various workstations.
- Attend production meetings to review all open orders and report on issues.
- Assistance with inventory preparation, counts, recording, and/or review may be required.
- Familiarity with quality assurance and adherence to the Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Participation in the investigation of in-house failures alongside the Production and Fabrication team.
- Participation in transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintenance of Controlled Document List and accurate records.
- Maintenance of corrective action log when necessary.
- Participation in internal audits.
- Other duties as assigned.
To excel in this role, you will require:
- 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing or construction.
- 2-3 years of supervisory experience.
- Completion of high school.
- Post-secondary education in construction craft worker, project management, or manufacturing is an asset.
- Certified and proficient operator of sit-down counterbalance forklifts.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimum supervision to complete deadlines.
- Ability to work on multiple projects while adhering to tight deadlines.
- Clear communication and active listening.
- Ability to process information well and excellent time management.
- Strong product knowledge is an asset but not necessary; training will be provided.
- Computer literacy (MS Office, Accounting Software/ERP, Internet Shipping).
- Familiarity with authentication technologies and quality control methodologies.
- Proficiency in using hand tools (saws, routers, etc.) and a strong understanding of Imperial measurement systems (especially reading a tape measure and setting measurements).
