Public Safety Communication Officer

Job Summary
The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Communication Officer to join our team at the Sheriff Operational Communication Centre (SOCC). As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing communication support to Sheriffs Branch and Ministry partners, ensuring timely, accurate, and effective security and dispatch services.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to security and dispatch calls from various stakeholders and buildings associated with the Government of Alberta.
- Provide communication support to Sheriffs Branch and Ministry partners, including responding to alarms, safety concerns, and other emergency situations.
- Operate and maintain communication equipment and software, including Computer Aided Dispatch and Record Management systems.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, provincial enforcement agencies, and integrated law enforcement agencies to ensure effective communication and response to emergency situations.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of communication and dispatch activities.
Requirements
- Post-secondary one-year certificate in a related field, such as emergency communications or a related field.
- Experience working in emergency dispatching and control room environments, preferably with a government agency.
- Knowledge of Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) and other dispatching tools and software.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with managers, professionals, staff, and clients.
- Ability to remain focused and calm under pressure, with a high standard of discretion when handling confidential information.
Working Conditions
- Work 38.75 hours per week on a rotating schedule to provide 24-hour/7-day coverage at the SOCC.
- Located at the Millbourne Professional Centre or at SOCC's offsite location on the Alberta Legislature Grounds.
