The City of Yellowknife is an inclusive employer offering a dynamic and rewarding work environment that delivers valuable services to our residents. Working in Local Government provides many opportunities to not only develop your career but also to improve the lives of residents and visitors to the community.
We are currently seeking a qualified and enthusiastic individual to assume the position of Heavy Duty Mechanic with the Public Works Department.
Reporting to the Superintendent, Roads and Sidewalks and under the direct supervision of the Fleet Supervisor, the Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for the preventive maintenance and repairs for the City's heavy truck, stationary engine and equipment fleet. In addition, the Heavy Duty Mechanic may be required to service and repair small gasoline and diesel equipment.
The work requires a Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician Certificate as well as a minimum of five years' work experience in the trade. A valid NWT Class 5 driver's license is required.
The training and ability to use oxy-acetylene and arc welding equipment (including mig welders) is required. There will also be the requirement of being on an on-call rotation. The work requires an understanding of the principles of component and electrical systems that apply to gasoline and diesel engines. Maintenance and repair handbooks are not always available so independent judgment is required when diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs and interpreting instructions.
The City of Yellowknife offers a comprehensive benefits package including monthly housing and vacation travel allowances totalling $450 per month and a defined benefit pension plan.
Qualified applicants are required to apply through the City of Yellowknife Website.
Please be advised that the City of Yellowknife requires all prospective employees to provide a criminal records check prior to employment.
