Job Title: Mechanical Estimator

We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Estimator to join our team at Ganotec. As a Mechanical Estimator, you will be responsible for analyzing bid documents and preparing quantity and cost evaluations for mechanical components. Your expertise will be essential in developing the execution plan and schedule during the pre-project phase.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical equipment installation, performed by boilermakers and millwrights. You will work closely with the estimation team to prepare cost estimates for major projects locally and across Canada. Your attention to detail and ability to analyze plans and specifications will be crucial in this role.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare cost estimates for mechanical components, working closely with the estimation team.
  • Review owner's plans and specifications to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project.
  • Carry out assessments of quantities and labor required for the work.
  • Participate in the creation of tenders proposals for subcontracting, coordination with bidders, and analysis of proposals.
  • Determine construction equipment needs for carrying out the work.
  • Develop a construction plan as the basis for the estimate.
  • Participate in estimate coordination meetings and various stages of closing bids.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, such as planning, procurement, and the proposal team.
Requirements
  • Candidate can be an experienced craft worker from the boilermaker or millwright trade or from a technical/engineering background.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in construction and/or project estimation.
  • Strong knowledge of construction and construction methods in Canada.
  • Excellent command of the Microsoft Office Suite, with knowledge of BlueBeam software an asset.
  • Aptitude for learning new software systems an asset.
  • Experience in a heavy industrial, hydroelectric, OGC, or mining project environment.
  • Good ability to prioritize and organize time effectively, ability to work independently, and be polyvalent.
  • Fluent in French (spoken and written), with functional knowledge of English (written and verbal) an asset.
