Position Overview
As a Lead Estimator at Ganotec, you will be responsible for preparing, reviewing, and presenting estimates for specific project proposal activities. This role requires providing estimating leadership and guidance to projects, developing conceptual estimates, and performing cost analysis. You will assist in the development of discipline estimates, develop and update historical databases, and assist in the development of department procedures. Additionally, you will provide direction to others on estimate-specific level tasks as required.

Ganotec is a full-service, heavy industrial contractor serving the industrial sector across Canada. We conduct our business through various commercial contract styles, including full turnkey, EPC, design-build, T&M, and conventional discipline packages. Our company is a strong proponent of 'partnering,' working in collaboration with owners, major equipment suppliers, and engineers at the early stages of project development to achieve a more cost-effective execution strategy.
Responsibilities
- Review the owner's plans and specifications to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project and develop an execution plan as the basis for the estimate.
- Lead the estimating team in the preparation of cost estimates for major projects across Canada.
- Coordinate with each discipline's leads and estimators, project planners, procurement, and proposal teams to develop a complete proposal for our clients.
- Perform a quantitative evaluation of the scope of work in accordance with our quantity tracking system, evaluate labor, material cost, and construction equipment requirements for the project.
- Validate the quantities given by the discipline estimators.
- Review and evaluate suppliers and subcontractor cost propositions, compliance with project specifications, and alignment with project strategy, and propose selected proponents for the estimate proposition and close-out.
- Prepare a comprehensive summary of the estimate to present to the management team and obtain estimate approval.
- Prepare a comprehensive presentation and summary of the estimate for external clients.
- Maintain a professional and trustworthy relationship with clients, professionals, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Construction Management or equivalent experience in heavy industrial estimating.
- About 8 years of relevant experience in heavy industrial estimating.
- Excellent knowledge of the Canadian construction market.
- Excellent communication skills in French required, English a strong asset as we have projects across Canada.
- Advanced computer skills, knowledge of MS Office, AutoCad, and BlueBeam software is an asset.
- Experience in industrial, hydro, oil, and gas, and mining is an asset.
