Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Financial Operations Specialist to join our team at Grain Millers Yorkton. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing various financial functions, including general accounting, reporting, and inventory operations, while ensuring compliance with our accounting policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • General Accounting Functions
    • Prepare and review month-end general ledger entries and generate financial statements.
    • Calculate monthly expense accruals and reconcile accounts as required.
    • Prepare GST and PST returns on a monthly basis.
    • Enter daily inventory transactional data accurately and efficiently.
    • Understand payables, vendor management, and multiple currencies.
  • Inventory Management
    • Responsible for daily accounting of warehouse inventories, reviewing and adjusting entries as necessary.
    • Reconcile book inventory to physical inventory at month-end, including conducting physical inventory counts.
    • Collaborate with off-site warehouses to verify and monitor inventory levels.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in understanding multiple software systems and integrating them effectively.
  • Payroll Administration
    • Process essential payroll functions, including regular monthly journal entries.
    • Ensure accuracy in pension and union reporting requirements.
    • Track and maintain accruals for payroll, including vacation, sick, and seniority time.
    • Review and process final payroll for reasonability before employee payment.
  • Additional Duties
    • Third-party reporting and analytical support for managers.
    • Perform special projects assigned by management.
    • Assist other members of the accounting team as needed.
    Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in Commerce or Business Administration.
    • Minimum 3 years' experience in an accounting environment.
    • Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting principles.
    • Highly proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office or similar applications.
    • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
    • Critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal abilities.
    • Able to work in a grain processing environment that may expose staff to allergens such as grain dust.
