Job Overview

The Casualty Claims Specialist at Wawanesa Insurance plays a crucial role in delivering an exceptional claims service experience. This involves the fair and equitable adjustment of auto and non-auto bodily injury and property damage liability claims. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of policy coverages and be able to document claim files accurately.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to members, ensuring their needs are met throughout the claims process.
  • Ensure timely and proactive communication with members, providing clear and concise information about their claims.
  • Adjust property and casualty claims of large to high complexity, applying policy coverages and adjusting guidelines.
  • Review and interpret policy wordings to determine policy coverage, and communicate coverage decisions to members.
  • Establish accurate loss and expense reserves through the life of the claim, evaluating relevant information from various sources.
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations on all files to determine coverages and liability, adhering to Wawanesa's adjusting guidelines.
  • Coordinate and manage investigations and services with vendors and service providers.
  • Negotiate and convey claim settlements within authority limits, communicating claim decisions promptly and effectively.
  • Maintain an effective diary system and document claim file activities according to established procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date with legislative changes and trends in the insurance industry, maintaining excellent knowledge and understanding of policy coverages.
  • Participate in private mediation, court proceedings, and other dispute resolution as required.
  • Provide ongoing technical advice and guidance to claims staff.

Requirements

  • Exceptional customer service skills with empathy and concern for member satisfaction.
  • Minimum 6 years insurance adjusting experience, with strong knowledge of Commercial Lines Policy Wordings.
  • Post-secondary degree preferred.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or working towards designation.
  • Excellent knowledge of property estimating software, Xactware knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and quantify property damage estimates.
  • Excellent communication skills, with listening, written, and spoken abilities.
  • Excellent investigative and analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to draw valid conclusions and communicate them effectively.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with others.
