Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at Fraser Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) program, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement OH&S policies, procedures, and programs to prevent workplace injuries and exposures.
  • Conduct risk assessments and identify, assess, and recommend mitigation of workplace hazards.
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations to management on maintaining compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and OH&S programs.
  • Liaise with WorkSafeBC officers during inspections, investigate, and provide advice to management on WorkSafeBC inspection reports and orders.
  • Collect and analyze data, prepare reports, and maintain records of client interactions.
  • Respond to workplace incident reports, support management in ensuring appropriate follow-up action is taken, and provide recommendations to achieve compliance with applicable legislation and the OH&S program.
  • Provide advice to Human Resources, management, and other clients on grievances related to the OH&S program.
  • Promote constructive union-management relations through respectful communication and interest-based problem-solving.
  • Represent Health & Safety on various internal and external committees, such as Site Leadership, Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committees, and provincial working groups.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from a recognized program, plus five years of recent related experience in a unionized environment, and registration as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and certification that is acceptable to Fraser Health.
  • Valid B.C. Driver's License and use of a personal vehicle.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of workplace health and safety principles and practices, and working knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations, legislation, and collective agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with others in a highly sensitive labor climate, handle change effectively, and model effective behaviors for others.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
