Economic Development Planning Lecturer

This course is designed to equip students with the skills to understand and apply various analytic approaches for regional and community economic development planning. The techniques used in professional practice provide information about the behavior and performance of local economies and measure the impact of public policy interventions. With a focus on case-study examples, the course provides students with a solid understanding of the range of policy interventions used by economic development practitioners, the context and rationale for selecting between economic development policy alternatives, and the suitability of policy alternatives at the spatial scale of the city and the region.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, teach, and deliver a University credit course
- Meet with student teams to guide and advise them on their assignments
- Hold weekly office hours
- Mark and evaluate student assignments, record student attendance, and submit grades
- Build and maintain a Quercus course shell
- Design course syllabus, content, and assignments in consultation with the Program Director
- Liaise with the Program Director regarding course content and curriculum
- Participate in the MUI Case Competition as part of the course
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Geography, Planning, Political Science, or a related field (preferred) or relevant industry experience
Compensation:
- IMI Sessional Lecturer rate of $17,267.74 for a 0.5 credit course (includes 4% vacation pay)
