Job Description

The Lead Nuclear Engineer, Project Delivery Specialist will be responsible for leading a group of engineers, analysts, and designers engaged in design activities such as specifications, design, structural analysis, procurement, verification, and validation related to Civil Structures.

  • Identify gaps in team size or technical capabilities and develop plans to close those gaps through hiring, releasing, and developing staff.
  • Hire and release staff, secondees, and contractors as required.
  • Expeditate negotiations between Technical Managers to optimize staff allocation.
  • Analyze skill distribution on projects and provide recommendations.
  • Mentor and/or organize mentoring of staff to improve performance and department technical capabilities.
  • Manage team's training and qualification records to ensure compliance with procedures.
  • Provide clear expectations, performance measures, meaningful feedback, recognition, and rewards, and take disciplinary steps when warranted.
  • Develop and manage Performance Objectives, Individual Development Plans, Training Plans, Knowledge Transfer Plans, Proficiency Matrix, and Succession Plans.
  • Develop and implement corrective measures to improve individual performance.
  • Responsible for human resources issues and effectively managing and resolving them, working with Technical Managers as needed.
  • Plan and execute work consistent with quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee computer design activities related to fundamental design for a nuclear power plant.
  • Work with assigned staff to find optimal solutions to project challenges.
  • Work with assigned staff to develop/modify Computer System Architecture and software code for CANDU Simulator, DCC, Safety Systems, Fuel Handling System, Distribution Control System, and Cyber Security.
  • Provide technical guidance to staff, as needed.
  • Evaluate that work is conducted in accordance with applicable Codes and Standards, contract, applicable specifications, and technical requirements.
  • Ensure company KPIs are managed and met in a timely fashion.
  • Interface with stakeholders and vendors to ensure system designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements, and that resulting designs are constructable, operable, and maintainable.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer or electrical engineering, or a related field from an accredited University.
  • Experience in nuclear and/or CANDU technology is an asset.
  • Experience managing engineering work with interfacing requirements involving other engineering teams (I&C, Process Control, Electrical, Safety, Licensing, and Human Factors), Procurement, Quality Assurance, Contracts, and Construction.
  • Experience delivering an overall plant control system design of a power production facility.
  • Regulatory communications experience in a regulated industry is an asset.
  • Cyber security experience for Operational Technology is an asset.
  • Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada is an asset.
  • Experience in Computer System Architecture and software code for CANDU simulator, DCC, Safety Systems, Fuel Handling System, Distribution Control System, and Cyber Security is an asset.
  • Knowledge of/experience with the CSA and IEC standards pertaining to Computer Engineering in production and safety-critical applications is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management System (CSA N286), quality standards (CSA N299), and digital hardware standard (CSA 290).
  • Commercial acumen, with experience in procurement, contracts, supply chain, and/or logistics.
  • Station operations and/or station maintenance experience in a plant controls facility is an asset.
  • Proven track record of performance in a multidiscipline, dynamic, project delivery environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
