Senior Nuclear Engineering Lead

This role is based in the Candu Energy Inc. home office in Mississauga, Ontario. Reporting to the Director of Reactor Components and Mechanical Engineering Division, the Senior Nuclear Engineering Lead will be assigned to work on a new large CANDU design project and will laterally report to the Project Technical Director (PTD).

About the RoleThe Senior Nuclear Engineering Lead will have the following responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership: Providing technical leadership in Reactivity Control Units design engineering including the preparation of the technical specifications, drawings, design specifications, bill of materials, and design certifications.
- Technical Expertise: Providing technical expertise on code and standard requirements such as CSA N285 and ASME Section III Division 1 pressure boundary requirements.
- Project Scope and Deliverables: Responsible for developing project scope and deliverable definition in compliance with the governing contract documents, quality requirements for the project and any additional customer requirements.
- Resource Allocation: Making decisions/recommendations with respect to resourcing requirements on the project and working with the relevant functional managers who will assign the engineering resources.
- Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing strategies for out-sourcing engineering scope within their scope of responsibility with business partners within and outside AtkinsRéalis.
- Team Management: Ensuring that an appropriate combination of skills and experience is maintained within the project to provide technical leadership and specialized expertise as required to support the project.
- Human Resource Management: Making recommendations on human resource issues and effectively managing and resolving work performance problems as they relate to the project. Providing technical staff with clear expectations and performance measures, meaningful feedback, and recognizing and rewarding achievements.
- Mentoring and Training: Supporting functional managers in mentoring, training, developing, motivating, coaching, and evaluating the performance of the staff.
- Interfacing with Stakeholders: Fostering a good working relationship with staff and managers in the Reactor Components and Mechanical Engineering Divisions as well as other Divisions.
- Collaboration: Working with the Project Manager (PM) to plan the work, ensuring resource availability and allocation, assigning tasks and progress reporting against deliverables.
- Quality Assurance: Reviewing and approving project related documents/drawings and ensuring technical work is performed in accordance with applicable codes and standards and company quality assurance manual.
- Leadership: Providing strong leadership within the project team, and within the company for aspects related to Reactivity Control Units engineering.
- Regulatory Compliance: Interfacing with the national regulatory bodies (CNSC and TSSA) and international regulatory bodies such as KINS ISCIR, CNCAN, etc.
- Client Relationships: Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, partners, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
- Issue Resolution: Raising scope changes (either requested by the client or discovered internally due to technical findings) and critical issues to the PTD, PM, Director of the Reactor Division and relevant functional managers.
- Solution-Focused: Leading assigned engineers to find solutions for technical issues. If needed, engaging additional help from Functional Engineering to seek issue resolution.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with a minimum of 10 years technical experience in the CANDU Reactor field.
- Knowledgeable in CANDU reactor reactivity control units.
- Demonstrated skills in the leadership of a highly technical group.
- Ability to resolve technical issues.
- Understanding of quality assurance manuals and procedures.
- Knowledge of reconciliation and registration processes is preferred.
- Experienced in stress analysis and FEA methods alongside other design activities.
- Knowledge in finite element analysis techniques and codes such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA will be beneficial.
- Good time management skills.
