Job Title: Part Time Interpreter III

Job Summary:

George Brown College is seeking a highly skilled Part Time Interpreter III to provide confidential interpretation services between American Sign Language (ASL) and English. The successful candidate will work primarily from the St. James Campus, ensuring effective communication dynamics for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, deafened, and hearing individuals.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide ASL and English interpretation services for students, faculty, committees, events, staff, and other professionals.

Prepare for interpreting situations by studying assignment-related resources, networking with related professionals, and establishing linguistically appropriate communication strategies.

Provide interpreting services in meetings, staff sessions, and college-wide events.

Consult with students, faculty, and staff on the appropriate use of an interpreter and assess and arrange interpreting environments for successful communication dynamics.

Manage invoicing and data entry of services by placing statistical data into our Deaf and Hard of Hearing database, ensuring accurate tracking of service activity.

Promote service excellence within the schools, participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, and monitor professional literature to stay up-to-date on new developments in the field.

Requirements:

Minimum two-year ASL Interpreter Training Program diploma.

Minimum seven (7) years' demonstrated experience in educational and community interpreting or equivalent.

Skills and Attributes:

Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision; solid problem-solving skills.

Demonstrated communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and teamwork skills at a professional level.
