We are seeking a skilled Health Information Management Specialist to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our health information management team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient health information.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing accurate coding and abstraction of inpatient, day surgery, and emergency health information. This will involve working closely with healthcare professionals to collect and analyze data, and using this information to inform decision-making and planning of healthcare services.

We are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of health information management principles and practices, as well as experience working with electronic health records systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate coding and abstraction of inpatient, day surgery, and emergency health information
  • Work closely with healthcare professionals to collect and analyze data
  • Use data to inform decision-making and planning of healthcare services
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of patient health information
  • Develop and maintain relationships with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Diploma in Health Information Management from a recognized Canada Health Information Management Association program
  • Certified with the Canadian College of Health Information Management and hold active certified membership in good standing with Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)
  • Knowledge of National and Provincial legislation and NSHA/Area policies that govern Confidentiality, Privacy, and security of health information
  • 2 years of experience in health information management
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
  • Current knowledge of data collection standards, including Canadian Institute of Health Information standards
  • Knowledge of health information systems, including 3M, Discharge Abstract Database, National Ambulatory Care Reporting System, and ADT system (MEDITECH/STAR)
