About the Role

CMHC is seeking a seasoned Lead Financial Reporting Specialist to join its team. As a key member of the Finance department, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in financial reporting and accounting.

Company Overview

CMHC is Canada's largest source of funds for housing financing, offering mortgage loan insurance to homeowners and private investors in newly-built, existing single-family homes and condominiums, as well as rental apartments.

Salary Range

$120,000 - $180,000 per year, depending on experience.

Job Responsibilities

You will lead the development, implementation, and management of financial reporting strategies, policies, and processes that align with CMHC's business objectives. Your expertise will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Canadian Accounting Standards (CAS).

You will work closely with senior executives, audit committees, and board members to provide insightful financial analysis, advice, and recommendations. Your strong communication skills will enable you to effectively convey complex financial information to stakeholders.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field;
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in financial reporting, including IFRS and CAS;
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts and IFRS 9 Financial Instruments;
  • Proven leadership and management skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing teams;
  • Excellent oral and written communication, negotiation, and influencing skills in English and French;
  • Sound ability to manage conflict constructively and build morale;
  • At least 5 years of experience performing external audits or serving as primary contact for external auditors;
  • Experience with IAS 20 Accounting for Government Grants and Disclosure of Government Assistance.
