About the Role

Island Health - Vancouver Island Health Authority is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Chief Project Officer to lead the development and construction of major capital projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the planning, procurement, and commissioning of large-scale projects, including the Colwood Long and Nanaimo Term Care Projects, the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Cancer Project, and the Tofino Hospital Project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning and procurement processes for major capital projects, ensuring alignment with Island Health's strategic plan and Ministry mandates.
  • Oversee the clinical and facilities design and construction of projects, ensuring the vision established for the designated projects is met for the organization, its patients and residents, care providers, and local communities.
  • Make decisions involving the Strategic Planning Partners, Project Contractors, Regional Hospital Districts, and Developers, and ensure the effective management of complex procurement structures.
  • Develop and maintain rapport with internal and external stakeholders, including patients, residents, care providers, and local communities.
  • Supervise and provide direction to others, and operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Master's Degree in Business Administration or a related field, supplemented with fifteen (15) years' recent related experience in progressively more complex and senior management/leadership roles in a large complex health care organization. The candidate will also have five (5) years' recent, relevant experience as a Chief Project Officer responsible for managing large, complex capital projects, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.
