Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Summer Academic Instructor to join our team at Gomasa. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching academic courses to students in grades 9-12 as part of our Upward Bound program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach 10-20 hours per week, developing and implementing engaging lesson plans and assessments.
- Develop and administer pre- and post-tests, as well as create and maintain class objectives and syllabi.
- Plan, develop, and implement the class curriculum, including weekly lesson plans and evaluations.
- Complete midterm and final evaluations on each student, providing regular feedback and progress updates.
- Collaborate with students, staff, and parents to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Demonstrate mature judgment, moral, and ethical behavior, while showing respect and sensitivity for cultural differences.
- Communicate student progress regularly, ensuring timely and effective feedback.
- Meet deadlines and participate in orientation and staff meetings, as required.
Qualifications:
- Secondary Education Teaching Certificate for academic classes preferred.
- One year or more experience teaching curriculum related to the open position preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations, specifically low-income and potential first-generation college students preferred.
- Relevant technology skills and device for virtual and/or in-person instruction.
Physical Demands:
This position requires frequent periods of sitting or standing, occasional lifting over 10 pounds, and frequent movement between different offices/workspaces/buildings. Effective communication abilities with students are essential.
