The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service is a leading provider of medicolegal death investigation services in the province. Our team of experts is dedicated to providing accurate and impartial investigations into deaths that are violent, unexpected, or unexplained.
Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Forensic Technician to join our team. As a Forensic Technician, you will be responsible for assisting the Medical Examiner in performing autopsies and other duties related to morgue operations.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the Medical Examiner in performing autopsies and other duties related to morgue operations
- Document all personal belongings and evidence
- Take x-ray and dental x-rays
- Package and ship or transport specimens
- Communicate with funeral homes and body removal contractors
- Clean autopsy stations between cases and terminal clean the morgue
- Perform in-house laundry and order and maintain autopsy and scene supplies
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Graduate Technologist or Funeral and Allied Health Services Diploma
- Knowledge of and experience in the principles, methods, practices, equipment, and materials of modern forensic autopsy
- Working knowledge of the principles of forensic science, including chain of custody and preservation of evidence
- Maintain confidentiality at all times
- Strong attention to detail and judgment skills
- Strong interpersonal and adaptability skills
