Job Title: Community Support Worker

Interior Community Services is seeking a Community Support Worker to join our team in Merritt, BC. As a Community Support Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting adults with diverse abilities to reach their potential and enhance their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build relationships and social skills with clients
  • Encourage meaningful and rewarding community connections
  • Engage clients in recreational activities, including sports, crafts, and community participation
  • Transport clients in agency vans to activities
  • Support clients with mobility challenges, including assisting with walkers, pushing/pulling wheelchairs, etc.
  • Monitor personal care and health needs, and perform personal care as needed
  • Collaborate with participants, their caregivers, and other professionals to provide a holistic support system
  • Recognize risks, take preventative measures, and respond to emergencies using de-escalation and therapeutic intervention skills
  • Administer medication as needed, strictly adhering to agency medication policies and procedures
Requirements:
  • Community or School Support Worker Certificate, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license (or equivalent) and safe driving record
  • Physical requirements of the job include supporting individuals in wheelchairs, or walkers, lifting, transferring, using lifts appropriately, pushing, pulling, bending, and assisting clients safely in and out of vehicles, etc.
  • Existing certification is an asset: CPR-C, Mandt, Safe Food Handling, Medication Management, Anti-Bullying and Harassment, CLBC Privacy
