Lead Cinematic Animator Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Cinematic Animator to join our dynamic team at Electronic Arts Inc. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and mentoring a team of animators, creating and managing cinematic content, and ensuring the quality and consistency of animation work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of animators, providing mentorship, regular feedback, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Oversee the creation of in-house and outsourced cinematic content, ensuring alignment with the project's artistic vision and narrative goals.
  • Work closely with directors, producers, and other stakeholders to maintain a cohesive animation style.
  • Task and scope animation work effectively, planning and allocating resources while addressing potential bottlenecks.
  • Review animation work to ensure adherence to best practices and workflows.
  • Stay updated with the latest animation tools, technologies, and industry trends, providing technical solutions and support to the animation team as needed.
Expectations:
  • Advocate for production deadlines and manage efforts to achieve task completion.
  • Oversee the creation of cinematic animations in alignment with the project's artistic vision.
  • Collaborate closely with directors, producers, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage a team of animators with varying experience levels.
  • Oversee outsourcing content and deliverables.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and seek opportunities to mentor the team.
  • Identify and solve technical and creative issues to maintain high-quality animations.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment and take direction well.
  • Facilitate implementation of animation content and test results in the game.
  • Engage in discussions about artistic and technical challenges with colleagues.
  • Seek feedback on your work while providing feedback to others.
  • Contribute actively to the craft and promote a collaborative learning culture within the team.
  • Exhibit excellent attention to detail and possess a creative mindset.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of experience as a cinematic animator for in-game content.
  • Proven experience as a Lead Animator or similar role in the gaming or entertainment industry.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Experience working on at least one AAA game with involvement in creating narrative content such as cinematics or scripted events.
  • Expertise in animation software such as Maya, Motion Builder, or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in performance capture polish and keyframe animation.
  • Excellent understanding of character animation, timing, and storytelling.
  • Good eye for camera language and framing.
  • Broad understanding of technical workflows.
  • Experience in collaboration and content alignment with broader teams.
  • Passion for improving workflows and tools.
