Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Recreation Worker to join our team at Fraser Health. As a Recreation Worker, you will play a vital role in delivering social and recreational activities to our clients, promoting their physical and emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement a variety of social and recreational activities for assigned clients, including mental aerobics, music, cooking, and special events.
  • Stimulate clients' interests through discussion groups, speakers, and magazines, and teach new skills of daily living, including safety in the home.
  • Report activities of daily living (ADL) to the Nurse, observing clients during activities, and reporting observations of clients' behavior and progress.
  • Assist clients with ADLs, such as bathing, dressing, hygiene, eating, toileting, and ambulation, and demonstrate the appropriate use of equipment, such as mechanical lifts, wheelchairs, and walkers.
  • Assist clients with meal selection, meal setup, and feeding, and collect and serve lunch to clients.
  • Perform nursing procedures, such as taking temperature, pulse, respiration, and weight, and obtain urine and stool samples as required.
  • Assist with established activity programs, such as exercise routines, walking exercises, passive/active range of motion, social activities, cognitive stimulating activities, and active physical activities.
  • Participate in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings, providing input into client activities, and participate in quality improvement initiatives and in-services.
  • Transport clients to and from assigned areas, utilizing mechanical aids, such as wheelchairs and patient lifts, and arrange for on-site entertainment and book necessary equipment and rooms.
  • Assist with client orientation of the Adult Day Program, providing introductions, facility tours, and reviews of daily recreational activities.
  • Set up furnishings and equipment for activities, ensuring a safe and tidy working environment, and maintain the activity bulletin board to ensure information on client recreation activities is current.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as answering the phone, ordering supplies, recording daily statistics, completing incident reports, and other related activities.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12, plus graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant program, completion of recognized recreation courses, and one year recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current Food Safe I certificate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to teach.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
