Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Recreation Worker to join our team at Fraser Health. As a Recreation Worker, you will play a vital role in delivering social and recreational activities to our clients, promoting their physical and emotional well-being.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement a variety of social and recreational activities, including mental aerobics, music, cooking, and special events.
  • Stimulate clients' interests through discussion groups, speakers, and magazines.
  • Teach new skills of daily living, including safety in the home.
  • Report activities of daily living (ADL) to the Nurse and communicate concerns and/or client difficulties.
  • Assist clients with ADLs, such as bathing, dressing, hygiene, eating, toileting, and ambulation.
  • Perform nursing procedures, such as taking temperature, pulse, respiration, and weight.
  • Assist with established activity programs, including exercise routines, walking exercises, passive/active range of motion, social activities, and cognitive stimulating activities.
  • Participate in weekly interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
  • Transport clients to and from assigned areas and arrange for on-site entertainment and equipment.
  • Assist with client orientation and provide direction to volunteers.
  • Maintain a safe and tidy working environment and perform clerical duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12, plus graduation from a recognized Health Care Assistant program, completion of recognized recreation courses, and one year recent related experience.
  • Current Food Safe I certificate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to teach, organize work, and operate related equipment.
