Job Summary

The MHCB Success Coach is a vital member of our team, responsible for providing addiction and mental health promotion and prevention to children, youth, and families through Tier 1 universal programming. This role involves developing and delivering developmentally appropriate, evidence-based programming that meets the objectives of the MHCB initiative. As a Success Coach, you will work closely with school staff, parents, and community members to increase their knowledge, skills, and competence related to mental health and illness issues. You will also be responsible for recognizing, understanding, and adapting to the changing needs of your community related to mental health and wellness.

Key Responsibilities:

* Develop and deliver programming that meets the objectives of the MHCB initiative
* Work with school staff, parents, and community members to increase their knowledge and skills related to mental health and illness issues
* Recognize, understand, and adapt to the changing needs of your community related to mental health and wellness
* Build and maintain strong relationships with children, youth, and families
* Identify and facilitate access for individuals who need referral to specialized addiction and mental health services

Requirements:

* A related post-secondary degree or diploma in social sciences, or relevant courses and experience
* At least 2 years of working experience in addiction and mental health or health/human services related role
* Knowledge of addiction and mental health
* Familiarity with the development, educational, emotional, social, and recreational needs of children, youth, and families
* Experience with delivering programming and comfortable with public speaking
* Strong relationship building skills
* Effective time management skills
* Ability to work independently as well as in teams
* Skill and knowledge of facilitation, positive communication, and creative thinking
* Solid comprehension and practice of personal and professional boundaries
* Ability to develop supportive relationships with young people
* Establish positive and healthy relationships with children, staff, and families
* Ability to advocate for and enable others
* Foster coping behaviors, knowledge, and skills of children and youth
* Creative problem-solving and decision-making skills
* Comfortable liaising with community members, school staff, community agencies, and health care providers
* Provide immediate and direct intervention and crisis management services as needed
* Community collaboration/networking skills
* Understanding of the community's economic, cultural, and political environment
* Knowledge of the local community and resources available
* Capable of maintaining program statistics for purposes of evaluation and assisting in evaluating the effectiveness of programs
* Show resilience and a commitment to personal development
* Skilled in Google programs and working knowledge of social media
* Ability to plan collaboratively with others to meet the needs of children, youth, and families
* Provide Program Manager with reports and referrals so that additional supports may be accessed
* Document and maintain records of success coaching activities
* Participate in professional development opportunities, meetings, and other ongoing directives from Program Manager

Assets:

* All professions must provide proof of licensure or registration with approved Alberta Regulatory College, prior or commencing duties where applicable
* Regulated health professions under Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to show an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties
* Other professions governed by government acts, college, or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation
* Practice permits cannot interfere with MHCB work
* MHCB is a prevention and promotion initiative, therefore the role will not meet certain requirements for licensing related to teaching certification or clinical social work or registered psychologist hours

Working Conditions:

* Be available to work evenings, weekends, and summer hours
* Wage: $23.98 per hour
* Hours of work: 35 hours per week
