Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner will function in an interdisciplinary team environment, providing care to patients with an oncology/hematology diagnosis. The role will involve advanced physical assessment, clinical reasoning, pharmacology, and collaboration with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to formulate effective care plans.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care and services in a manner consistent with the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre mission and core values of Patient & Family Centred Care.
  • Treat all information concerning patient affairs or illnesses and/or hospital business as confidential, privileged information.
  • Be accountable for ensuring the safest patient care and services and for recognizing and reporting safety incidents or potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care to patients with an oncology/hematology diagnosis.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans that address the unique needs of each patient.
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families to promote health and well-being.
Requirements:
  • Unencumbered registration as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Nurse Practitioner certification in Primary Health Care or Adult streams.
  • Membership in RNAO or NPAO is required.
  • Successful completion of Graduate Studies.
  • Minimum 3 years recent nurse practitioner experience in an acute care setting during the past 5-year period.
  • Experience in Oncology/Hematology (2 years minimum).
  • Completion of the Desouza Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Course to be completed, will be provided.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of Patient and Family Centred Care.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Regular and sustained attendance.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the Hospital's Code of Conduct.
  • Computer skills using Word, Excel, and Power Point, Groupwise.
