Job Overview:

We are seeking a Senior Data Governance Specialist to join our team at the City of Ottawa. This role is responsible for developing and implementing legislative policy and projects, administering the City's Commemorative Naming program, and providing business support services to the department.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will act as the City's subject matter expert on access to information and protection of privacy, process access to information requests, and promote the routine disclosure of information. They will also request and review Corporate Records, monitor amendments to legislation, and serve as the primary liaison between external parties, internal departments, and the Information and Privacy Commissioner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement legislative policies and projects related to access to information and protection of privacy;
  • Administer the City's Commemorative Naming program in accordance with established procedures;
  • Provide business support services to the department, including data analysis and reporting;
  • Act as the City's subject matter expert on access to information and protection of privacy;
  • Process access to information requests and promote the routine disclosure of information;
  • Request and review Corporate Records; and
  • Serve as the primary liaison between external parties, internal departments, and the Information and Privacy Commissioner.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a 3-year degree in Law, Information Management, Political Science, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience with freedom of information and privacy legislation, preferably in a large municipal setting;
  • Knowledge of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 1996, and its regulations, as well as the Personal Health Information Protection Act, 2004;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing at all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders;
  • Results-oriented and able to achieve goals by setting challenging but realistic targets and deadlines;
  • Ability to work effectively under established legislated timelines;
  • Excellent analytical ability and a strong decision maker;
  • English oral, reading, writing required;

Salary Range: $85,000 - $115,000 per annum, depending on experience.
