About the Role

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Scoliosis Nurse Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Paediatric Orthopaedic Team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to children and young people with scoliosis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary point of contact for families and patients, providing expert guidance and support throughout their care journey.
  • Lead on Nurse-Led Clinics for new and review patients, ensuring seamless coordination and effective communication.
  • Develop and implement pre-assessment protocols for paediatric spinal patients, including diagnostic testing and scans.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to prepare patients for surgery, ensuring comprehensive preoperative care.
  • Collect and analyze outcome data for paediatric patients, contributing to the development of best practices and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise with young people and their families to facilitate a smooth transition to adult services, working closely with colleagues in adult orthopaedics.
  • Provide specialist clinical advice to ward nursing staff and junior medical staff, promoting excellence in patient care.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for new starters, staff induction, and orthopaedic study days, ensuring knowledge sharing and skill development.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse (appropriate to branch)
  • Current NMC registration
  • Degree/Masters level study or equivalent specialist study/experience
  • Extensive post-registration experience, including some senior-level experience within the specialist area of practice
  • Extended clinical practice underpinned by training, supervision, and assessment
  • Good IT skills
  • Audit/research experience
  • Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent report writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Effective organization and time management skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant NHS policy or project-specific policy context
  • Understanding/experience of adult/child safeguarding

  • Masters degree
