Job Title: Business Intelligence Developer

Job Summary:

The City of Victoria BC is seeking a skilled Business Intelligence Developer to join our Information Technology Team. As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will play a crucial role in leveraging data to create insights and drive informed decision-making across cross-functional departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with project teams and business units to ensure the effective implementation of BI tools and processes.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data models to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability for reporting and analysis purposes.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and guidance in the development and maintenance of a corporate data framework and centre of excellence.
  • Design procedures and structures to effectively extract, transform, load, and clean data from diverse sources.
  • Adhere to data governance policies and security protocols, maintaining data privacy and compliance with established requirements.
  • Liaise with various City departments to translate their data requirements into actionable solutions that align with strategic goals.
  • Analyze extensive datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies, providing valuable insights for decision-makers.
  • Generate and customize intuitive reports, dashboards, and visualizations tailored to specific business needs and objectives using business intelligence tools such as Power BI.

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Statistics, or Engineering.
  • 5 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with MS SQL Server and Azure SQL database operations and optimization.

Working Conditions:

The work environment is an office setting. The physical effort required is sitting with arms unsupported while keyboarding. The mental effort required is long periods of intense concentration while working with large volumes of data. The visual/auditory effort required is focusing on a variety of source data and computer for long periods.
