Clinical Mentor, Nursing Professional Practice Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Mentor to join our team at IWK Health. As a Clinical Mentor, you will play a critical role in supporting the professional development of Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in a specific clinical area. Your expertise and experience will enable you to provide expert clinical knowledge and skills to nurses, promoting a positive learning environment that supports safe and independent professional nursing practice.
Reporting to the Manager of Policy & Nursing Enhancements, you will be responsible for facilitating the supportive application of existing and new clinical knowledge and the translation of knowledge into practice. You will also act as a role model, teacher/coach, facilitator, and guide for all nurses, ensuring that the learning and mentorship experiences are flexible, supportive of varied styles of learning, and take into consideration the competency level of the nurses.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing expert clinical knowledge and skills to nurses
- Facilitating the supportive application of existing and new clinical knowledge
- Acting as a role model, teacher/coach, facilitator, and guide for all nurses
- Ensuring that the learning and mentorship experiences are flexible and supportive of varied styles of learning

RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing degree
- Registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
- Minimum of five (5) years' recent clinical nursing experience
- Minimum of three (3) years' recent nursing experience in youth mental health nursing
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a preceptor
- Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification
- CNA Certification in Mental Health Nursing (an asset)
- MHANS Program in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing (an asset)
