Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager to join our dynamic finance team. As the Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of our financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role is crucial in providing technical expertise, guidance, and leadership to support the organization's financial integrity and strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Accounting Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing the preparation and accuracy of financial statements in compliance with ASPE or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures that align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing technical guidance on complex accounting issues including revenue recognition, lease accounting, business combinations, and other financial transactions.
  • Coordinating internal support for external audits.
  • Staying updated on changes in accounting standards and regulations, conducting research on accounting issues, and documenting 'white papers' to support internal accounting assessments and positions.
  • Assessing and maintaining effective internal controls related to financial reporting to mitigate risks and ensure accuracy.
  • Training and developing staff on accounting policies, procedures, and standards to ensure consistent application throughout the organization.
  • Collaborating cross-functionally with departments such as legal, tax, and treasury to address financial reporting issues and ensure alignment on financial matters.
  • Participating in special projects such as mergers and acquisitions, system implementations, or process improvements with accounting implications.
  • Effectively communicating financial information and accounting policies to senior management and external auditors.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders across the business to understand operational challenges and opportunities and provide financial insights and support.
  • Reviewing and optimizing the use of consolidation tools and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Proven ability to lead teams (or proactively lead) of direct and indirect reports to successfully complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to optimize reporting timelines and quality of end product.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and Big 4 experience preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in accounting, with 5+ years specifically in technical accounting roles.
  • Thorough knowledge of ASPE or IFRS and experience in applying technical accounting principles to complex transactions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to research, interpret, and apply accounting standards and regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with senior management, auditors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Hands-on experience with Hyperion Financial Management, or its equivalent, to facilitate the accumulation and reporting of financial data on a timely basis.
