Job Summary

Island Health is seeking a highly skilled Mental Health Specialist to join our team. As a Mental Health Specialist, you will be responsible for providing crisis intervention and risk assessment services to individuals in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and intervention to individuals in crisis, utilizing evidence-based practices and techniques to de-escalate situations and promote safety.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential threats to individuals and communities, and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, social workers, and law enforcement, to ensure comprehensive care and support for individuals in crisis.
  • Professional Development: Stay up-to-date with best practices and research in crisis intervention and risk assessment, and participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's degree in a health-related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.
  • Experience: Two years' recent experience in crisis intervention and risk assessment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills: Advanced practice skills in cognitive behavioral therapy, brief solution-focused therapy, and risk assessment; demonstrated interpersonal and clinical skills, including crisis intervention, stabilization, and de-escalation techniques.
  • License: Valid BC Driver's License.
