Senior Advisor Legal Affairs and Compliance Specialist

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the NBC team as a Senior Advisor Legal Affairs and Compliance Specialist. As a key member of our Insurance Regulatory team, you will play a critical role in shaping our risk culture and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Act as an expert on the legal and regulatory framework for the sale and distribution of life and health insurance under provincial jurisdiction outside Quebec, providing guidance and advice to internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with external legal firms to provide formal legal opinions on litigation files governed by regulators outside Quebec.
- Develop and implement best practices and update the legal and regulatory framework outside Quebec within the sector, including the compliance manual and regulatory library.
- Act as the single point of contact for regulatory authorities and various committees of the life and health insurance industry outside Quebec.
- Supervise the development of reports, questionnaires, and declarations to be submitted to regulatory authorities and management.
- Coordinate the elaboration, monitoring, and implementation of action plans resulting from recommendations issued by internal and external stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain the framework for monitoring sales practices of representatives working in provinces outside Quebec to ensure compliance with internal policies and legal and regulatory requirements.
You will be part of a team of 6 regulatory and risk management experts, reporting to the Chief Risk and Compliance Officer. Our team is dedicated to ensuring the highest standards of compliance and risk management within the NBC Insurance sector.
Requirements- Bachelor's degree related to the sector of activity and six years of relevant experience or Master's degree related to the sector of activity and four years of relevant experience.
- Member in good standing of a Canadian Bar.
- Advanced level of understanding and knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework in the field of life and health insurance in provinces outside Quebec.
- In-depth knowledge of products and activities related to the field of life and health insurance in provinces outside Quebec.
- Relevant experience in an insurance firm or within a regulatory body outside Quebec, an asset.
- Proven analytical ability with a strong solution-oriented mindset.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with diplomacy and tact.
- Sense of organization and priority management.
- Knowledge of French (spoken/written) is an asset.
