Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a skilled Geriatric Mental Health Nurse to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will work with older adults who are experiencing dementia or have major psychiatric disorders, concurrent disorders, and/or problems normally associated with aging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychogeriatric assessments to identify client needs and develop individualized care plans.
  • Provide crisis intervention and case coordination services to support clients and their families.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Consult with general practitioners, caregivers, and family members to provide education and support.
  • Coordinate community resources and provide educational programs to promote healthy aging and mental well-being.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients, families, and colleagues to provide high-quality care and support.
  • Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues through consultations, in-services, and presentations.

Qualifications

  • Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Three (3) years' recent related experience working in geriatric mental health and addictions or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A valid driver's license and use of a vehicle are required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of gerontology and geriatric psychiatry, including current practices in Older Adult Mental Health and Addiction.
  • Knowledge of concurrent disorders, assessment, and treatment of psychiatric clients.
  • Knowledge of issues associated with aging, chronic illness, and psychosocial factors.
  • Ability to provide counseling, psycho-education, and consultation services.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to provide high-quality care and support.
