Job Summary

The University of British Columbia seeks a highly skilled and experienced Scientific and Business Development Director to lead the Electron Microbeam and X-Ray Diffraction Facility (EMXDF). This is a key position that requires a strong background in scientific leadership, research direction, and business development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership: Develop and implement strategic plans for the EMXDF, ensuring the facility remains at the forefront of electron microbeam and X-Ray diffraction research and development.
  • Team Management: Lead a team of highly specialized analytical staff, providing guidance and support to ensure the daily operation of the EMXDF runs smoothly.
  • Research and Development: Foster scientific excellence by ensuring the facility provides leading-edge support for graduate student research programs and departmental, UBC, and industry research initiatives.
  • Business Development: Identify funding and market opportunities for synergy and collaboration, and develop commercialization and marketing strategies to promote the EMXDF's laboratory services and research.
Requirements
  • Post-graduate degree or equivalent professional designation with a minimum of five years of related experience, including experience in a field of specialization.
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and demonstrate a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in Geological Sciences or related disciplines and demonstrated productivity in the appropriate fields.
  • Seven years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience if not responsible for a research project.
  • Five years of experience in a field of specialization or equivalent combination of education and experience if responsible for a research project.
