Job Title: Greenhouse Labourer

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Greenhouse Labourer to join our team at Millennium Pacific Greenhouses. As a Greenhouse Labourer, you will be responsible for maintaining the health and productivity of our greenhouse crops.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clean the crops to ensure optimal growth and health
  • Cut horticultural crops to promote healthy growth and development
  • Divide fresh harvested produce into marketable lots and non-marketable lots
  • Perform greenhouse cleaning tasks to maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Guide growing shoots into optimal development positions
  • Hand harvest vegetables to ensure quality and freshness
  • Mix fertilizers to promote healthy plant growth
  • Remove manually all suckers and water sprouts to promote healthy plant growth
  • Tie and secure plants to prevent damage and promote healthy growth
  • Train trees to produce more fruit of higher quality
  • Weed to prevent competition for water and nutrients
  • Spray or dust plants with insecticides and fungicides to prevent pests and diseases
  • Assist in pruning trees, shrubs and plants to promote healthy growth and development
  • Mix and prepare soils to promote healthy plant growth
  • Transplant seedlings or rooted cuttings to promote healthy growth and development
  • Apply fertilizers to promote healthy plant growth
  • Report signs of insect or disease damage to ensure prompt action is taken
  • Water and tend to plants, lawns and/or gardens to ensure optimal growth and health
  • Clean work area to maintain a safe and healthy working environment

Requirements:

  • 1 year to less than 2 years of experience in a related field
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with repetitive tasks
  • Ability to handle heavy loads and work in physically demanding conditions
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform bending, crouching, and kneeling
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively
  • Ability to work in a rural area and adapt to changing weather conditions
  • Ability to work with hydroponic horticultural products and vegetables
  • Ability to work with greenhouse tomatoes
  • Ability to work in a non-smoking environment
  • Ability to work in a wet/damp environment
  • Ability to work at heights
  • Ability to work in hot and cold/refrigerated environments
  • Ability to work with odours
  • Ability to work with large workloads and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with hand-eye co-ordination
  • Ability to work overtime as required
  • Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs)
