Position Summary: Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, the Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for ensuring strict adherence to the HACCP Program, customer requirements, and all regulatory frameworks for the entire facility. The successful candidate will maintain current knowledge and expertise on requirements of various standards, including the BRC Global Food Safety Initiative, Certified Humane, Organic, and Anti-Biotic Free, and ensure that plant policies and procedures accurately reflect these requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for:

1. Planning, developing, initiating, coordinating, implementing, and maintaining procedures for optimum quality assurance and control.

2. Overseeing the implementation and compliance of all HACCP-related documentation.

3. Managing and ensuring full execution of all corporate Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs.

4. Developing and initiating standards and procedures for inspections, auditing, testing, evaluations, and compliance with the food safety program.

5. Leading internal and external audit programs, including knowledge and experience with current BRC audit guidelines and requirements to ensure plant compliance with FSEP and Corporate Food Safety and Quality Programs.

6. Training and retraining employees for various tasks and Good Manufacturing Practices, including Critical Control Points (CCP).

7. Developing and implementing procedures for disposition and consumer complaints.

8. Interacting with other departments to develop food safety training programs, as well as with the marketing department and customers during routine audits, customer complaints, and new products.

9. Reviewing and approving required paperwork and documentation created by the various departments, including production, sanitation, and maintenance.

10. Managing the microbiological testing program as applicable for ingredients, materials, and production.

11. Recommending and implementing corrective and preventative measures to improve product safety and quality standards.

12. Participating in new product development and presentations with sales and marketing.

13. Hiring and supervising Quality Control Technicians.

14. Supervising and motivating the team of QC Technicians and conducting performance reviews.

15. Providing and advising strategic inputs to the senior management team.

16. Attending corporate training and meetings.

17. Monitoring suppliers' compliance for all incoming raw materials and ingredients with respect to food safety and quality.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess:

1. Experience working in a meat processing plant, an asset.

2. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

3. High proficiency in Microsoft Office computer programs (Excel and Word).

4. High level of integrity and work ethic.

5. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

6. Proven ability to administer safety and quality assurance programs.

7. Ability to assess and prioritize.

8. Proven leadership, team building, and interpersonal skills.

9. Ability to accurately maintain detailed records.

10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, employees, and supervisors.

11. Be success-driven and have a “can do” attitude.

12. Must be dependable and reliable.

Education:

Possess a bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field.

Experience:

The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of experience in quality control lab analysis, food processing, Food Industry HACCP and BRC programs, and quality management.

Quality Assurance experience in a food manufacturing facility is an asset.

Work Conditions:

The successful candidate will be exposed to:

1. Wet/cold/warm/hot conditions.

2. Typical office environment.

3. Excessive noise.

4. Standing for prolonged periods of time.
