Job Title: Senior Buyer

Job Summary:

The Senior Buyer is a key member of the procurement team responsible for the tactical procurement of commodities, supplies, equipment, and services to support the organization's operations. This role requires a strong understanding of procurement principles, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage purchase orders for raw materials, consumables, subcontractors, and services, ensuring timely delivery and expediting when necessary.
  • Source, evaluate, quote, select, and negotiate pricing for materials, supplies, and services, ensuring the best value for the company.
  • Analyze and implement effective inventory management systems, maintaining optimal inventory levels and reducing costs.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements, implementing process changes and monitoring results.
  • Manage vendor relationships, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Customer Service to ensure timely delivery and meet production requirements.
  • Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries, minimizing impact on the organization.
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams, contributing to process improvements and best practices.
  • Ensure adherence to and enforcement of purchasing policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Stay current with internal and external factors impacting the procurement function, researching and surveying markets to confirm pricing and market trends.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in material management or business, with a minimum of 5-7 years of relative experience as a buyer.
  • Experience purchasing in a manufacturing environment, with a strong understanding of supply chain management principles.
  • Proficient computer skills, with the ability to use Word, Excel, ERP, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Strong customer service focus, with the ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations.

Working Conditions:

  • Salary range: $65,000 to $80,000 annually.
  • Some travel may be required, with the ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Work on site at the plant as many days as required, with overtime as needed.
