Job Title: Senior Buyer

Job Summary:

The Senior Buyer is a key member of the procurement team responsible for the tactical procurement of commodities, supplies, equipment, and services to support the organization's operations. This role requires a high level of expertise in procurement, negotiation, and relationship-building with suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and manage purchase orders for raw materials, consumables, subcontractors, and services, ensuring timely delivery and expediting when necessary.
  • Source, evaluate, quote, select, and negotiate pricing for materials, supplies, and services, ensuring the best value for the company.
  • Analyze and implement effective inventory management systems to maintain optimal inventory levels.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements and implement solutions.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Customer Service to ensure job completion and delivery requirements are met.
  • Make alternate arrangements in the event of shortages or delayed deliveries to minimize impact on the organization.
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams to drive process excellence.
  • Ensure adherence to and enforcement of purchasing policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
  • Stay current with internal and external factors impacting the procurement function.
  • Research and survey markets to confirm pricing and market trends.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in material management or business (preferred).
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience as a buyer, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Completed or in the process of completing the Supply Chain Management Professional designation program (asset).
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to use Word, Excel, ERP, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision and respond appropriately in pressure situations.
  • Strong customer service focus.

Working Conditions:

  • Salary: $65,000 to $80,000 annually.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Work on site at the plant as many days as required.
  • Overtime as required.
