Job Summary

About the Role:

The Chief Safety Officer will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety program that aligns with the university's risk management strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for employees, students, and visitors.
  2. Conduct regular risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to minimize potential hazards.
  3. Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement a comprehensive safety plan that aligns with the university's strategic objectives.
  4. Provide training and guidance to employees on safety protocols and procedures.
  5. Investigate and report on all incidents and near-miss incidents, and develop recommendations for improvement.
  6. Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies and industry associations.
  7. Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements, and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as occupational health and safety or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing effective safety programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
