Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Traffic Operations Centre Operator at the City of Toronto. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the RESCU Traffic Operations Centre, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic throughout the city.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate a variety of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices and information systems to monitor roadways and incidents, and coordinate with First Responders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Disseminate traveler information and manage real-time data entry database to ensure accurate and up-to-date information is available to the public.
  • Work in a 24/7/365 environment with flexible shift times, including holidays, to ensure continuous operation of the centre.
  • Dispatch City staff and contracted crews for routine and emergency road traffic maintenance activities.
  • Collect, review, validate, and disseminate road restriction/closure information to the public, minimizing disruption to the general public.
Requirements
  • High school or GED Diploma
  • Proficient in the use of Windows PCs and multi-monitor computer workstations, with experience in data entry and management.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Toronto geography and roadway network.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work well in a diverse team environment.
  • Confidence in using freeway management and traffic control computer applications, including cameras, variable message signs, sensors, and control devices.
  • Self-motivated and able to maintain situational awareness of the city's road network.
  • Previous experience in writing reports and correspondence is an asset, with support and development offered to all successful applicants.
  • Ability to coordinate real-time activities and remain calm under pressure.
  • Confident in taking calls, dispatching on a radio or telephone, and communicating clearly and concisely.
